Reforming Texas’ Higher Education Institutions

A few weeks ago the Texas Public Policy Foundation released research that exposed the out of control spending by Texas universities who have placed the burden of their irresponsible fiscal habits on the backs of students, parents, and taxpayers.

 

Now, TPPF has recorded a PolicyCast that recommends several policies university regents and Texas lawmakers could implement to infuse competition into the higher education market that would result in driving costs down and quality up.

Tell Rep. Bohac to Support HB 1893

I have just received word that State Representative Dwanye Bohac has removed his name from the list of cosponsors for HB 1893 (The concealed carry on campus bill).
 
Representative Bohac was a member of Young Conservatives of Texas when he was in college. 

Please call him and express your disappointment and ask him to please renew his public support for the bill.

Protect Private Property – Stop the Smoking Ban!

HB 5 is up for a public hearing on April 28th.  For those unfamiliar, this measure would ban smoking in workplaces and public places.

This measure is an awful attack on private property rights and the free market.  We could use your help fighting the ban.

The Young Conservatives of Texas debated the University Democrats at UT Austin last night over the concealed carry on campus bill…but this quote stood out to me:

“The University should be able to say that when you are on this campus that you are not responsible for protecting your life,” said University Democrats member Luis Soberon.
