Press Releases / April 12, 2010

(Austin, TX) The Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT), a non-partisan grassroots political organization, announce their endorsement of Lt. Col. (Ret.) Brian Birdwell for State Senator in Senate District 22.

“The Young Conservatives of Texas are proud to support Lt. Col. Brian Birdwell. We believe he is the right candidate to bring conservative values to the citizens of district 22,” said Laura Elizabeth Morales, Senior Vice Chairman.

Lt. Col. (Ret.) Brian Birdwell is a native Texan, decorated military veteran, and lifelong conservative Republican whose story of survival and recovery following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon has inspired people around the nation.

He is a graduate of Lamar University and has served the nation in the United States Army. Lt. Col. Birdwell was inside the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, when American Airlines Flight 77 was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon. His story of survival is told in his book, co-authored by wife Mel, “Refined by Fire: A Family’s Triumph of Love and Faith.” Brian and Mel launched the non-profit organization, Face The Fire Ministries, which supports critical burn survivors and wounded servicemen, women and their families.

YCT Senior Vice Chairman Laura Elizabeth Morales said, “As a Valley resident who has worked to elect conservatives in my region, I’m particularly troubled that during David Sibley’s career as a lobbyist he has made numerous political donations to South Texas Democrats like Sen. Leticia Van De Putte, Sen. Juan Hinojosa, Sen. Carlos Uresti, and Sen. Judith Zaffarini. We know we can absolutely trust Brian Birdwell to never compromise on his conservative principles.”

In 2008, Lt. Col. Birdwell addressed the Young Conservatives of Texas 28th Annual State Convention in San Antonio, Texas. Those wishing to support Birdwell’s candidacy are encouraged to visit www.brianbirdwell.net.
