Austin, TX — Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) announced today their endorsement of Representative Charles Perry for re-election in House District 83. Representative Perry is being challenged by Delwin Jones, who represented the district before being unseated by Perry in 2010.

“Conservative voters in District 83 were smart to throw-out the RINO Delwin Jones and elect Charles Perry last session,” said Tony McDonald, YCT Senior Vice Chairman. “After seeing Representative Perry work hard and vote along with their conservative principles for a session, we know they will opt to send him back to Austin. Republicans in District 83 deserve better than a representative like Delwin Jones who voted with the liberal Democrats more often than he voted with his own party.”

The group points to the two men’s performances on YCT’s ratings of the Texas Legislature as a reason for the endorsement.

“In his eleven sessions in the Texas House, Delwin Jones scored 60 or below seven times, including an abysmal score of 35 during the 77th Legislative Session,” added McDonald. “In contrast, Representative Perry earned an Honorable Mention for his score last session.”

Jeff Morris, YCT State Chairman, added: “Charles Perry kept his campaign promises, including fighting waste and fraud in Medicaid and helping to pass a Voter ID law. We believe he has a very bright future in the Texas legislature.”

In response to the endorsement, Representative Perry commented, “I’m honored to have YCT’s continued support. They were the first state-wide group to endorse me in 2010 and helped mobilize support for my campaign. Texas is well served with YCT keeping an eye on the Legislature.”

Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) has been promoting conservatism at universities across the Lone Star State for over three decades. The state’s most active political youth organization, YCT is composed of hundreds of members and alumni who participate in the full spectrum of politics.
