AUSTIN — Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) today announced their endorsement of Mike Brucia for State Representative in House District 64, which covers portions of Denton County.

“Mike Brucia is the conservative this district needs,” commented Tony McDonald, YCT’s Senior Vice Chairman. “In this primary, voters will have the opportunity to vote for a true conservative to represent them.”

Brucia is running against long-term incumbent Representative Myra Crownover.  Crownover earned only a 66 on YCT’s Ratings of the 82nd Texas Legislature, putting her in the bottom third of all Republican representatives on the group’s scorecard. Crownover’s primary focus during her tenure in the legislature has been on passing a statewide smoking ban.  YCT has criticized the representative for her efforts, calling a statewide smoking ban a violation of the property rights of business owners.

Brucia is a self-employed small business owner in Denton and founding President of the Denton County Republican TEA Party.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of such a well-known and highly regarded conservative organization as the Young Conservatives of Texas,” said Brucia.

Young Conservatives of Texas has been promoting conservatism at universities across the Lone Star State for over three decades. The state’s most active political youth organization, YCT is composed of hundreds of members and alumni who participate in the full spectrum of politics. YCT issues the most respected ratings of the Texas legislature and is the only conservative group to have done so without interruption over the past 19 legislative sessions.
