AUSTIN — Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) today endorsed Matt Beebe for Texas House District 121.  Beebe is challenging Joe Straus, the current speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, for State Representative from House District 121.

“This race is a referendum on the conservative grassroots of Texas,” commented Tony McDonald, YCT’s Senior Vice Chairman.  “Rarely are we given an opportunity to hold such a powerful establishment politician accountable. We have the opportunity to replace the moderate Joe Straus with Matt Beebe, a solid, principled conservative.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of such a principled organization of young conservative leaders. YCT has shown great courage by being one of the first organizations to jump on our campaign.” said Beebe. “We are taking our campaign directly to the people of District 121 and they’re resonating with our message supporting true conservative values.”

YCT’s State Chairman, Jeff Morris, noted that Joe Straus showed a lack of leadership in his inability to pass conservative legislation given a super majority in the Texas House.  “With a Republican supermajority, the Speaker failed to pass many pieces of legislation that were important to conservatives.  From concealed carry on campus, to the TSA groping bill, to a budget that doesn’t kick deficits down the road, Straus has failed conservative and Republican voters.”

“Matt Beebe is a business owner, veteran, adoptive father, and conservative Republican. The voters of District 121 deserve someone who will stand for both social and fiscally conservative principles. Someone who actually believes in a limited role of government. Matt Beebe will deliver just that.” Morris concluded.

Young Conservatives of Texas has been promoting conservatism at universities across the Lone Star State for over three decades. The state’s most active political youth organization, YCT is composed of hundreds of members and alumni who participate in the full spectrum of politics. YCT issues the most respected ratings of the Texas legislature and is the only conservative group to have done so without interruption over the past 19 legislative sessions.
