YCT Condemns the Biden Administration’s Student Loan Policy

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Following the Biden Administration’s announcement that it plans to ‘forgive’ $10,000 of federal student loan debt, Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) Chair Julia Crusius released the following statement:

“Colleges—encouraged by the federal government’s student loan practices—have been raising tuition by thousands of dollars each year. And now, the Biden Administration is giving them a high-five and a pat on the back, encouraging them to continue raising tuition even higher. 

Not only is the Biden Administration’s policy bad for the economy, but it will cause tuition prices to skyrocket at an even greater rate. This happens every time the government artificially increases demand by subsidizing a good, and doing so in higher education will be no different. While this policy may provide some temporary relief to mostly those in the Democratic base, forgiving federal student loan debt is, at its core, a hand-out to our higher education system that entraps young Americans with ever-increasing tuition and debt.

YCT members condemn this backwards policy and instead promote policies that will attack the root causes of high tuition and student debt.”
