Internship Spotlight: Luke Posegate

Spotlight / August 25, 2022
One of the most important things the Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) does is act as a career pipeline for the conservative movement. College students interested in political careers gain meaningful experience and education through their involvement with YCT on campus, and then YCT connects them with summer internships where they work in the conservative movement and prepare for their careers. One such student is Luke Posegate. I hope you enjoy reading his story below.

“My name is Luke Posegate and I am the chapter chairman of YCT at the University of Dallas. I am from Des Moines, IA, and I currently study Economics at UD. In my free time, I enjoy playing intramural sports, reading Supreme Court opinions, and learning about American history and contemporary political issues.
This summer I am an intern in Washington, D.C., with the Young Leaders Program at the Heritage Foundation—the nation’s top conservative think tank. As the intern for the Outreach department, I work with the various groups across the conservative movement on issues ranging from parental choice in education and abortion to the protecting our right to bear arms. I attend coalition meetings, manage our vast base of contacts, and help familiarize groups and individuals with the Heritage Foundation and its work at conservative conferences across the country. I was also blessed to work with someone in my office to publish an op-ed with the Daily Signal—the Heritage Foundation’s news outlet. This internship have provided me excellent professional experience working with movement leaders and policy experts.

YCT has been instrumental in both my conservative intellectual formation and in motivating me to defend our nation and her founding principles by pursuing a conservative internship. Without my experience in YCT, I would never have known about all the conservative internship opportunities that exist. If there is one thing I have learned this summer, it’s that the YCT network is strong—even in the Nation’s Capitol. Conservatives who are hiring in Washington know and respect YCT for consistently producing top-tier interns who go on to become top-tier leaders in the movement. I am thankful I took advantage of this network and the many YCT alumni who are itching to provide career mentorship to students like myself.”
