Austin, TX—Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) announced their endorsement of Bryan Hughes (R–Mineola) for reelection as State Representative in District 5, which covers Camp, Morris, Rains, Titus, and Wood counties as well as portions of Smith County.  Representative Hughes drew a challenger in the Republican primary on the last day of filing.

“Bryan Hughes has been a champion for conservative causes during his tenure in the Texas legislature,” said Tony McDonald, YCT Senior Vice Chairman.  “We need the voters of District 5 to continue to send him to Austin to fight for conservative principles and values.”

Hughes has performed well on YCT’s ratings of the Texas Legislature, earning the fifth-highest score for a Representative for the 82nd Texas Legislature.  His career score has earned him a spot on the group’s Historic Honor Roll, a distinction is reserved for those officials who maintain an average score above 85 for their career.

“Bryan Hughes is a committed conservative and provides a strong voice in the Texas House for issues of great importance to our organization,” said Jeff Morris, YCT State Chairman, “Bryan’s unwavering conservative principles and his ability to clearly debate those principles on the House Floor make him invaluable to the grassroots movement in our state, and we absolutely need him back.”

In response to the endorsement, Hughes said, “I am honored to have the support of Young Conservatives of Texas.  When the going gets tough in Austin, YCT makes sure that members are voting the best interests of their districts and Texas.”

Elected as part of the statewide Republican ascendency in 2003, Hughes has represented District 5 for five sessions.

Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) has been promoting conservatism at universities across the Lone Star State for over three decades. The state’s most active political youth organization, YCT is composed of hundreds of members and alumni who participate in the full spectrum of politics.
