AUSTIN—Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) today endorsed Ted Cruz for U.S. Senate.
“Ted Cruz is the strongest proven conservative we’ve seen in years,” said Tony McDonald, YCT Senior Vice Chairman. “Ted Cruz blends passion, principle, and eloquence with a great depth of understanding of the issues. Conservative grassroots activists across Texas are fighting for Ted Cruz because Ted doesn’t just talk about conservative values, he’s been on the front lines, fighting and winning conservative battles, without compromise.”
“I am honored that Young Conservatives across Texas are standing with me as we take the conservative fight to the U.S. Senate. YCT is a principled organization of young leaders who work tirelessly to elect conservative Republicans, not Republicans in name only,” said Cruz. “Our campaign continues to build momentum, with an army of grassroots conservatives who will not be intimidated by establishment Republicans seeking to buy Texas’ senate seat.”
McDonald noted that many in the establishment want to simply anoint a candidate in the Senate race, but that conservative voters in Texas aren’t buying it and will be heard at the ballot box.
“When the media asked how Scott Brown could serve in ‘Ted Kennedy’s seat,’ he rightfully reminded them that it’s the people’s seat. In the same way, the Senate seat in Texas doesn’t belong to the highest bidder, and just because David Dewhurst can write an enormous personal check doesn’t mean he can buy this race,” McDonald said.
“The people of Texas need a strong leader who will lead the fight against the Obama agenda, not a go-along-to-get-along moderate like Dewhurst who has supported a state income tax, defended in-state tuition for illegal immigrants, thanked President Obama for the stimulus funds, and killed the TSA groping bill at the President’s request,” added Jeff Morris, YCT’s State Chairman.
“Ted Cruz is the only candidate in this race with a proven record of standing up against President Obama and fighting for conservative principles. That’s why Ted Cruz needs to be our next U.S. Senator from Texas. We’re endorsing early because this race is ground zero in the battle nationally between true conservative fighters and the establishment,” Morris concluded.
